About me
Would you like to know who I am and what makes me happy?
Up until the age of 25 I was a passionate sportsman. Having competed at a relatively modest level, I gained valuable experience as a ski jumper, cross-country skier and footballer. I must have tried almost every sport there is. I also enjoyed spending a lot of time out and about in the Swiss mountains.
Later on I was forced to switch sports, having been diagnosed with arthritis in both hips. At that point I became passionate about street and mountain biking.
My wife, Jeannette Collenberg, also enjoys sports. She knows what it means to be a focused top athlete. For several years she was a Swiss Ski competitor in Downhill and Super G.
We are the proud parents of two children, and are always thrilled when they play sports with each other or with us.
These days, my everyday life revolves mainly around work. I work a lot, and I really enjoy what I do. I understand what it means to ignore warning signs and exceed limits. And I also know how to get back to a steady state without sacrificing performance.
As a sports doctor, I've also been lucky enough to have contact with many world-class athletes. Swiss world champions and Olympic medallists have shown me what it means to set oneself aspirational goals, to approach them in a sensible way, and to eventually achieve them.
I know all about the good and bad sides of top-level sports, as well as what non-athletes can learn from them. The most important thing I've learned is that there’s always a fantastic team behind every solo success. Without a team, one person alone – no matter how brilliant – can never achieve ambitious goals.
One of my favourite books is "Lust an der Leistung" ("The Thrill of Performance") by Felix von Cube.
As well as taking pleasure in performance, there are another sides to me: I very much enjoy doing nothing and I enjoy culinary experiences. I always look forward to feeling happy in good company, and in exploring foreign countries. And I enjoy the freedoms that we hold so dear in Switzerland.
To me, quality of life also means simply being: with nothing I have to do, nothing I should do, nothing I want to do. Even if that only ever happens for a few moments at a time.
I am glad that I've already seen so much of the world. It is a privilege for me to be able to work in Switzerland. In Bad Ragaz, I meet friends from all over the world.
Guests from the most diverse of cultures come to spend their holidays in the hotels at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz. Here, everyone lives free and peacefully under one roof, and we relish in the world-famous thermal water, the fresh air, and the magnificent mountain backdrop.
Let us all look after our beautiful country, our guests and ourselves!
